The Cleveland Browns Injury Report
The Cleveland Browns injury report is out and Kareem Hunt is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition, James Robinson won’t be suiting up against the Jaguars. Meanwhile, Pat Freiermuth is a full participant. And Nick Mullens is set to make his first start as a Brown.
Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers
After a week off due to an ankle injury, Kareem Hunt has been listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, his status is uncertain. He is still not ready to return to practice and is not a 100 percent certainty to play against the Steelers. However, head coach Kevin Stefanski is not ruling him out. The running back will have to practice on Friday or Saturday to determine whether he can play.
James Robinson won’t be suiting up for Jaguars game
Despite the fact that the Jaguars’ top running back won’t suit up for the game Sunday, Robinson will still play in Week 1. The team has not announced a date for Robinson’s return, but he has taken first team reps in practice and will be active on the team’s roster Sunday. Whether Robinson gets a ton of touches and produces in the passing game will depend on the status of Robinson’s Achilles.
Pat Freiermuth is a full participant
Pat Freiermuth has been a full participant in practice all week. If he remains healthy, he should be able to emerge from the concussion protocol as a full participant in Monday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. It’s hard to see Freiermuth starting if he’s ruled out, but it’s safe to assume he will be back for Monday’s game.
Nick Mullens starts as a Brown
The Cleveland Browns are expected to sign former 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens. The NFL has set a Tuesday deadline for teams to cut their rosters to 53 players. Mullens spent the offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he was released after the Eagles traded for quarterback Gardner Minshew. Minshew has since lost his starting job to Trevor Lawrence, so Mullens will step into the role.
Pat Elflein to start at center
The Cleveland Browns’ injury report isn’t exactly stellar. Center Pat Elflein is questionable, but the center is still listed as a starter. The center last played in five games for the Browns last season, and he’s been limited in practice this week. Rookie linebacker Brandon Smith is also questionable, as is left guard Jeremiah Sirles. Nick Easton is a candidate to replace Elflein at center. Left guard Jeremiah Sirles is the other starter.
Mayfield throws 10 consecutive incompletions
The Cleveland Browns were in the playoff hunt when Baker Mayfield failed to deliver in Week 17. While he’s been battling through shoulder injuries, the rookie didn’t have the best performance in his latest outing. In addition to throwing 10 consecutive incompletions, he threw one interception and was sacked nine times by the Steelers. The Browns lost the game, 26-14, and the quarterback will likely need offseason surgery.
Mayfield struggles to find the end zone
There are several signs that Baker Mayfield struggles to find the end zone, but it’s hard to make a diagnosis unless you can see it yourself. The two interceptions against the Packers were pretty clear examples of this. Both were caused by Mayfield’s failure to set up his lower body in the right way. He’s unable to get his lead foot or hip to work properly.
